Osiris Therapeutics, Inc. is committed to developing its proprietary adult stem cell technology in order to provide physicians with next-generation tools for the treatment and functional restoration of damaged or diseased tissues. The multi-potential character of our stem cell product candidates provides the basis for a cell therapy platform that represents a virtually limitless number of indications.
Osiris Therapeutics currently has two development phase products, both of which are in clinical trials. The platform covers product indications in a diverse range of medical specialties, including inflammatory diseases, cardiology and orthopedics.
Prochymal is being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials for three indications, including steroid refractory acute Graft vs. Host Disease (GvHD), newly diagnosed acute GvHD, and also Crohn's disease, and is the only stem cell therapeutic currently designated by FDA as both an Orphan Drug and Fast Track product.
Prochymal is also being developed for the repair of heart tissue following a heart attack, the protection of pancreatic islet cells in patients with type 1 diabetes, and the repair of lung tissue in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Osiris has partnered with Genzyme Corporation to develop Prochymal as a medical countermeasure to nuclear terrorism and other radiological emergencies.
Chondrogen is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of osteoarthritis in the knee.
In addition to these medical conditions in clinical trials, Osiris has one product currently on the market. This product, Osteocel, is the first bone matrix product to provide all three bone growth properties: osteoconduction, osteoinduction, and osteogenesis, allowing orthopedic surgeons to provide their patients with bone growth conditions without the discomfort
and complications of autograft harvesting.
Osiris is continuing to research possible applications of its technology for use in new indications.
